Floods in Banagher, Ireland

We live 11 floors up in Warsaw so there's no chance we'll ever get flooded like many unfortunate people in Ireland have recently. Record levels of rainfall have fallen and though the waters have been receding a bit over the past few days there's bound to be a little more precipitation on the way.

Here are some photos a friend sent recently of my hometown Banagher in Co. Offaly. The first photo is from Shannon Harbour, which is a couple of kilometres away from our town. It has been really badly affected as it is right on the Shannon callows. Banagher has largely escaped disaster because it's on a bluff (a high steep bank usually formed by river erosion)
