Polish political opponents square up while Beatroot kicks some Daily Mail ass

The much anticipated televised public debate between the leader of the Law and Justice government party, Jaroslaw Kaczynski, and the Left and Democrats head candidate for Prime Minister, Aleksander Kwasniewski, ended in a draw match according to leading political commentators.
TheNews.pl portal report
The majority of respondents (53 per cent) to a telephone poll conducted by GfK Polonia after the debate last night between PM Jarosław Kaczyński and former president Aleksander Kwaśniewski are of the opinion that the ex president was the winner.

In one of the dumbest paragraphs I've seen written recently, the foreign service of Polish Radio website reports:
Politicians affiliated with the Prime Minister claim it was him, who won the clash, while those supporting Aleksander Kwasniewski are of the opposite opinion.

Wow, how insightful. It'd take your fucking your breath away really, the level of analysis that goes into some reports.

We're all guilty of shite analysis at times, but the above tops the list as an example of redundant language use.

In other news, the Civic Platform mayor of Hel (where Bush visited this summer and where many believe/hope he will end up when his heart stops beating) has been detained by the Polish Anti-Corruption Agency (CBA) - according to Polish Radio he was caught 'red-handed.' That's it. Caught red-handed. He may very well be guilty as sin, but fuck me, don't dangle a worm in front of a fish and expect it to just pass by. If you're going to use such terms at least fill us in with some alleged filthy details - or just leave it out altogether and allow the man to be presumed innocent before proven guilty.

Anti-corruption and purging post-communist elitist control over the economy and public institutions are the pillars of the 4th Republic which the Kaczynski twins are attempting to establish here - it's high on moral pandering and low on respect for established democratic practices, like freedom of press/speech/assembly (if you're gay).
So
while the latter reiterate the need for a lustration of Polish public life from nasty post-communists, the Left Alliance are desperately trying to raise their power-brokering potential by waging election campaigns in Ireland and Britain, as well as euphemistically painting their role in building the 3rd Republic, which took place after the '89 post-communist period.

I don't see anyone on the list that represents my views and therefore I advocate a boycott of the election. Of course, it's not cause I am against 'democracy', but actually because I really believe in democratic institutions - that is, where people actually have a choice wider than the scope of inquisitor and oligarch; Gucci or Armani suits; man or - well, ah, another man; very right-wing, fairly right-wing, centrally right-wing or well, ostensibly left-wing but actually also right-wing-ish.

I believe in worker and civilian control of society through self-government and truly representative popular councils, directly elected, participatory and consensual democratic practices employed at all stages, total transparency and accountablity practiced. Enough of this shitology as espoused by pseudo politico-intellectuals who have no more interest in the common good than I have hair on my head.We don't need these gombeens to rule us, lead us into wars, misspend our taxes on F-16's or highways that destroy ecologically sensitive areas.

Ok, a sidetrack from my bitching.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the Anglo-Polish blogosphere, the Beatroot has broken a great story of his involvement in a counter-sting operation against illegal activity by a Dail Mail journalist.
The journo, Sue Reid, offered him and his girlfriend £800 to break traffic laws in Britain so she could have 'proof' of them dastardly dangerous Poles evading paying fines by speeding and illegally parking with their Polish registered cars in Britain. EU Referendum gives some more details here

The journalist in question is the same woman who lambasted Britain's welfare system for being exploitable by foreign workers/spongers (I don't use such terms but it fits the prejudicial use of language from the point of view of conservative nuts in the Daily Mail) and their families. It is completely lawful that families of migrant workers, who receive financial entitlements through their husband's tax benefits, which he builds up while legally employed in the UK, don't actually have to live in Britain.

Indeed, if you are a conservative you should be rejoicing that they are not taking up places in the Tube as you travel to and from work, nor in front of you in the Tesco queue with a trolley full of kids stuff. But when you have an agenda of scapegoating a whole nation set in your mind these items tend to get forgotten. What assholes. Migrant work is the basis for strong economic growth in both Ireland and Britain - be grateful please, not selectively and misleadingly discriminatory and cynical.

And now for some good news.............

"Politicians affiliated with the Prime Minister claim it was him, who won the clash, while those supporting Aleksander Kwasniewski are of the opposite opinion."

At least Olejniczak (SLD or SdLP or LiD, whatever) managed to turn the predicatable "who won?" question into a joke. He said it was "obviously obvious" that his guy (Kwaśniewski) won. "Obviously obvious" (strictly "an obvious obviousness") is one of Kaczyński's verbal masterpieces.

Henry, that was worth a good laugh, thanks.

My Polish level is only at pre-intermediate so I miss out on a lot of funny comments made by public figures here.

I have to content myself being amused by Bushisms, silly slip ups from our good friend George Walker.

Maybe you would have time to compile the top ten Kaczynski-isms?

Olejniczak seems to have a sense of humour - and it seems from the Rzeczpospolita poll yesterday that a LiD/PO coalition might just be the one we will seee transpiring from the election.

Any predictive thoughts yourself on what will occur and what it means for Poland?

No.
There's an article in this week's Polityka in which the journo bemoans precisely the fact that it is impossible to know which party will ally with which after the election, making voting a real gamble.

You vote for PO - you get PiS
You vote for PSL - you get PiS
You vote for LiD - you get PiS

At least you're guaranteed a government.

Hmmm,

and PO most certainly have received bad news with today's Gazeta Wyborcza poll of voter preferences in Warsaw. PiS are now only 1.5% behind them in the capital.

So it seems like the sms being circulated regarding hide your grandmother's I.D. ain't being too effective!

My girlfriend told me about Zakowski's article (which I think you are referring too). I'll get out my dictionary and have a look at it. Thanks.
