Lebanon - 1 year after the war

I have spent the past 3 days in Southern Lebanese villages bordering Israel, many which were reduced to rubble in the brutal war waged one year ago - triggered by Hezbollah's capturing of two Israeli soldiers in disputed territories on the troubled frontier. The spirit of resistance amongst ordinary civilians, despite the loss of civilian and military life and infrastructural destruction reigned down upon them by the Israeli Offence Forces, was truly miraculous.

Yesterday I accompanied members of the Derry Anti-War Coalition at a commemoration service for the victims of the 2nd Qana massacre, on July 30th 2006.TBC
