Iraq War Veteran Wins European Poker Open in Poland

The first European Poker Tour open has taken place in Poland and the victor is none other than an Iraq War Veteran.

After sustaining an injury in the theatre of war, 24 year old Peter Willers Jepsen defeated 284 players to win the biggest sum of a $1.385 million prize pool, picking up $433,000 for his win. Unfortunately none of the news articles reporting the victory inform us where he is from, when he was injured, how long he served in Iraq, what actions did he take part in or where he served there. Is his a Danish name?

Poker is certainly a more profitable career than killing people and putting your own life at risk for an illegal and immoral war. ALthough a big ask, I would suggest that 20% of the winnings be donated towards the upkeep of Iraqi hospitals helping to mend the carnage unleashed by the destructive invasion and occupation of which Mr. Jepsen was a part of. I wish him all the best in recovering from his injuury and hope that he will refuse redeployment to the theatres of war if called upon by his commander in chief.
